ICCP works to protect Indiana communities from government overreach and aggressive, unchecked industrial development. These are the issues we are actively addressing, and the ones we are preparing for next.
What We Focus On
ICCP monitors and evaluates issues that affect Indiana’s land use, infrastructure, environment, and community autonomy. Our goal is to ensure development is responsible, transparent, and centered on the needs of residents; not outside interests.
We prioritize causes that:
- Impact city neighborhoods, rural communities, or small towns
- Involve large‑scale industrial or corporate development
- Present risks to infrastructure, utilities, or emergency services
- Lack adequate public transparency or community input
- Require policy awareness or coordinated community response
AI Data Centers
Status: Active Link: View the Data Centers page
Large‑scale AI data centers are expanding rapidly across Indiana. Many proposals move forward with limited public notice, unclear long‑term planning, and significant strain on local infrastructure. ICCP is actively supporting communities by providing research, policy guidance, and statewide coordination.
Causes Under Consideration
These issues are currently being monitored or evaluated for future ICCP action. As the coalition grows, additional cause pages will be added.
Potential future causes include:
- Flock Cameras/AI-Powered Public Surveillance: AI‑driven license plate readers are being adopted with little transparency and strong public pushback. ICCP is monitoring concerns about privacy, data retention, and government overreach, but is likely to take a hard stance against such public surveillance.
- Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMNRs): Indiana is being targeted for early SMNR deployment despite major public concerns about safety, transparency, and long‑term oversight. ICCP is monitoring proposals closely and evaluating how these reactors could impact nearby communities, emergency services, and local infrastructure.
- Industrial Solar Farms: Large‑scale solar projects can disrupt farmland, drainage, and rural character. ICCP is not opposed to solar power in general, but it is evaluating the long‑term impact of Industrial Solar Farms on land use and county zoning.
- Transparency in Industrial Development (IEDC & NDAs): Major industrial projects in Indiana are often negotiated through the IEDC and local NDAs that limit public awareness and input. ICCP is monitoring how these confidential processes affect community transparency, land‑use decisions, and residents’ ability to participate in early planning stages.
- Land‑Use & Zoning Reform Pressure: Many Indiana counties are being encouraged to revise zoning ordinances in ways that expand industrial development and reduce public oversight. ICCP is monitoring these changes to ensure communities retain a voice in how land is used and protected.
How We Select Causes
ICCP evaluates potential causes using a simple, transparent framework:
- Community Impact: Does the issue affect residents, rural communities, or local governance?
- Transparency: Are decisions being made without adequate public input or disclosure?
- Scale: Does the development pose significant infrastructure, environmental, or emergency service challenges?
- Urgency: Is the issue already moving through planning or approval processes?
- Statewide Relevance: Could this issue affect multiple counties or set statewide precedent?
